The United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON) is the UN headquarters in Africa and the representative office of the Secretary-General. UNON supports programme implementation of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) globally, as well as other UN offices in Kenya, by providing administrative, conference and information services (www.unon.org). The post is located in the Chinese Translation and Text Processing Unit, Translation and Editorial Section, Division of Conference Services (UNON).
工作內(nèi)容
Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Chinese Translation and Text Processing Unit, the reviser will be responsible for the following duties:
?Revise translations covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations.
?Translate, mostly without revision, texts covering a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations, particularly those subjects requiring experience and recognized proficiency.
?Perform quality control for translations done by external individual contractors.
?Develop new terminology for use where none exists in the target language.
?Carry out linguistic research and prepares technical vocabularies and related reference tools.
?Counsel and assist translators, including externals, and brief them on the procedures and practices of the Section, terminology and a broad range of subjects, as required.
?Participate in planning and organizing conference services, supervise the work of small group of translators and text-processors.
?Assist the Chief with the supervision of the Chinese text-processing sub-unit.
?Perform other related duties as required.

專業(yè)要求
A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Candidates for this position must have passed the relevant United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Translators.
工作經(jīng)驗
A minimum of five years of experience in translation, précis-writing, self-revision and use of relevant computer software, electronic tools and databases, of which three years preferably should have been in the United Nations.
語言要求
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, perfect command of Chinese language which must also be the candidate's primary language, is required. Excellent knowledge of English is required; knowledge of an additional official language is desirable.
