The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. UN Environment's Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition This post is located at the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) Athens duty station.Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Coordinator and the direct supervision of the MEDPOL Programme Officer, the incumbent will support the work of the MAP Monitoring programme to assist in Ecosystem Approach implementation.
工作內(nèi)容
1. Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/ projects, etc. with an emphasis on the monitoring and assessment of the State of the editerranean Ecosystem; monitors and analyzes programme/project development and implementation; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; liaises with relevant parties; identifies and tracks follow-up actions including liaisons with national coordinators and relevant scientists in the countries for the establishment of national monitoring programme.
2. Research, analyze and present information gathered from diverse sources, keeping abreast with major developments of marine science and pollution at the global and regional level.
? Follow up with development and implementation of biological effects, state and trend monitoring in the national monitoring programmes in the Mediterranean region and assists in evaluation of the results and the data of the monitoring activities as well as making proposals to ensure the quality and relevance of used data streams
? Liaise and cooperate with other regional environmental conventions for the promotion and harmonization of assessment tools, monitoring strategies, reporting procedures, etc
3. Contribute to the scientific aspects of the MAP monitoring programme including the
collection, processing and analysis of relevant data.
? Assist in policy development, including the review and analysis of issues and trends on application of ecosystem approach by MAP, preparation of impact evaluation or equivalent studies, identifying and monitoring data streams, etc.
? Undertake survey initiatives; review, analyze and interpret responses, identify problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
4. Prepares various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
? Provide substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to
include proposing agenda topics, identifying participants, preparation of documents and
presentations, etc
? Undertake outreach activities in cooperation with the relevant UN Agencies and national coordinators; conducts training workshops, seminars, etc. to enable full participation of the Mediterranean developing states in MAP activities; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities.
? Participate in or lead field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties and drafting mission summaries,etc. Coordinates activities related to budget and funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and prepares related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in environmental studies (marine Environment, chemical, biological oceanography, etc.), sustainable development, or a related Field is required. A first university degree with a combination of two years professional and academic qualifications may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)
A minimum of five (5)years of progressively responsible experience in the field of monitoring and assessment of marine environment with a particular focus on levels and trends of marine pollution and litter. Preparation and coordination support to implementation of regional marine environment monitoring programmes is desirable. Experience at the international level is an asset.
語(yǔ)言要求
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) and working knowledge of French are required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage."
