Staff members are subject to the authority of the Secretary-General and to assignment by him or her. In this context, all staff are expected to move periodically to new functions in their careers in accordance with established rules and procedures.

This position is located in the Meetings Support Section, Meetings and Publishing Division, Department for General Assembly and Conference Management, New York. The incumbent reports to the Chief of the Meetings Support Section.

工作內(nèi)容

Within delegated authority, the Senior Proofreader/Production Editor who heads the English Copy Preparation and Proofreading Unit will be responsible for the following duties: Apportions and supervises the work of the Unit. Monitors all work in progress and all outgoing work of the Unit, and resolves all outstanding queries. Provides guidance and instruction to Proofreaders/Production Editors. Monitors workflow records and work in progress. Reports to the Chief of the Copy Preparation and Proofreading Section on performance of staff and prepares work plans and performance appraisal reports on all staff of the Unit. Oversees and participates in training of new and short-term staff of the Unit. Provides final approval for printing and is responsible for press revisions of a specialized or highly technical nature. Inspects publications and other printed material for production quality prior to release and distribution. Oversees collaborative projects with the Desktop Publishing Unit (English) as well as provides guidance on production and proofreading to DGACM and Secretariat publishing entities. Performs other related duties as required.

專業(yè)要求

A first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Candidates must have passed the United Nations Competitive Examination for English Editors or the United Nations Competitive Examination for English Translators or the United Nations Competitive Examination for English Verbatim Reporters or the United Nations Competitive Examination for English Copy-Preparers and Proofreaders.

工作經(jīng)驗(yàn)

A minimum of five years of experience in production editing and proofreading text, graphics, tables for reports, publications and books during all stages of production is required. Experience in the supervision of creative teams is required. Experience with Adobe platform publishing software and content management systems is required. Trade book publishing experience, preferably in production editorial or managing editorial, is desirable.

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Fluency in one additional official language is required.
