This position is located in the Media Accreditation & Liaison Unit, Coverage and Media Services Branch, News and Media Division, Department of Public Information (DPI). The incumbent reports to the Chief of Unit. The Media Accreditation & Liaison Unit (MALU) provides accreditation to journalists covering United Nations activities at Headquarters and at major United Nations conferences abroad; reviews applications and issues media passes; facilitates media coverage of United Nations activities within guidelines; and coordinates the provision of services and facilities to accredited correspondents. As part of MALU, the Media Documents Centre (MDC) disseminates UN documents and press releases, and statements of member states to accredited journalists.

工作內(nèi)容

Within delegated authority and under the general supervision of the Chief of Media Accreditation and Liaison Unit, the Public Information Officer will perform the following duties:
Evaluating and approving the accreditation of correspondents and other media personnel covering the UN;
Liaising with media personnel to facilitate coverage, including the provision of information, escort, services, facilities and working space;
Liaising with delegates on media accreditation and the coverage of events and visits organized by governments;
Overseeing media accreditation and liaison at international conferences held away from Headquarters;
Liaising with the Department of Safety and Security, the Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, and with other offices, on matters related to media coverage of meetings, conferences, photo opportunities, press briefings and other events held at UN Headquarters and/or overseas;
Undertaking the research required regarding UN policy concerning media accreditation and liaison;
Updating the website and the Twitter account of the Unit;
Mentoring junior colleagues;
Serving as Officer-in-Charge in the Chief’s absence and assisting the Chief in implementing the Unit's programme of work by undertaking other assignments as required.

專業(yè)要求

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in communications, journalism, media studies, international relations, or a related field. A first-level university degree in any of these fields, in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

工作經(jīng)驗

Five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Experience liaising with the media and overseeing media accreditation required. Experience working with an international organization desirable. Experience updating a website and a Twitter account desirable.

語言要求

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.
