This position is located in the Statistical Services Branch (SSB) of the Statistics Division (SD), Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The Statistician reports to the Chief of SSB of the Statistics Division. The Statistics Division is committed to the advancement of the global statistical system. The Division compiles and disseminates global statistical information, develop standards and norms for statistical activities, and support countries' efforts to strengthen their national statistical systems. 工作內容

Within delegated authority, the Statistician will be responsible for the following duties:

? Organizes, designs, plans and carries out the collection, evaluation, analysis, compilation and dissemination of statistical data.
? Contributes to the development, maintenance and enhancement of databases, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicator database by performing ongoing reviews of its content in terms of data, metadata, functionality and agency and country coverage and suggest and implement improvements;
? Support the process for the implementation of the SDG indicator framework and strategic coordination on data for the 2030 agenda, including the work of the Inter Agency Expert Group (IAEG)-Sustainable Development Goals and High-Level Group-Partnership, Coordination and Capacity Building;
? Participates in the development or revision of standards on statistical concepts, definitions and classifications by performing methodological research.
? Prepares draft technical documents for international, intergovernmental and expert group meetings and assists in drafting relevant reports.
? Organizes and participates in seminars, working groups and expert meetings as a technical resource person.
? Guides trains and supervises general service staff.
? Performs other duties as assigned.

專業(yè)要求

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in statistics, mathematics, economics, sociology or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

工作經(jīng)驗

A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of statistical data or related area is required. Experience with Microsoft Office package is required. Experience with the development and implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) indicators is desirable.

語言要求

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
