This position is located within the Appeals and Accountability Section, Administrative Law Division, Office of Human Resources (OHR), Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance. The incumbent reports to a Legal Officer and to the Chief of Section.
工作內(nèi)容
The Associate Legal Officer will be responsible for providing legal support in handling disciplinary cases referred to OHR for appropriate action and providing advice on human resources and administrative matters, in the context of formal proceedings before the Organization's internal justice system relating to appeals of disciplinary matters filed before the United Nations Dispute Tribunal.
Duties will include:
-Review and prepare recommendations related to the processing of disciplinary matters;
- Assist in the preparation of submissions to the United Nations Dispute Tribunal, ensuring that they meet procedural requirements and identifying, where applicable, cases that are
amenable to informal resolution;
- Assist in representing the Secretary-General in oral proceedings before the Dispute Tribunal.
- Assist in responding to inquiries and correspondence;
- Draft, review and advise on legal documents and correspondence, contributing to the identification of issues and ensuring that they are consistent with the interpretation and application of administrative law;
-Conduct legal research and provide detailed analysis of cases and jurisprudence;
-Assist the Section in producing accurate, comprehensive documentation required under the disciplinary process and submissions;
-The Associate Legal Officer will also assist in maintaining the Section’s relevant databases and registers (electronic and online) and perform other duties as required.

Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law or other related areas is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A first-level degree and no experience will be accepted for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).

A minimum of two years of progressively responsible legal experience, including litigation at the national or international level is required. Experience in litigating administrative law matters is desirable. Experience in conducting workplace related investigations or handling disciplinary matters in an international organization is also desirable.
No experience is required for candidates who have passed the United Nations Young Professionals Programme Examination (YPP), the United Nations National Recruitment Examination (NCRE) or the General Service to Professional Examination (G to P).
語(yǔ)言要求
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
