工作內(nèi)容

Within delegated authority, the Chief of Section will be responsible for the following duties:

?Manage the translation, revision and related activities of the Spanish Translation and Text Processing Section to ensure prompt delivery of documents of appropriate quality and quantity.
?Supervise, monitor and evaluate the performance of all regular and temporary staff in the Section.
?Oversee the day-to-day and long-term planning of work in the light of workload projections, including the appropriate recruitment of temporary staff.
?Make recommendations to the Chief of Service on policy matters relating to his/her Section, including appointment, promotion and training.
?Adjudicate between competing demands on the Section’s services, where necessary.
?Liaise with other sections and units to ensure optimum coordination.
?Encourage the introduction and use of modern technologies with a view of enhancing the efficiency of the documents workflow, as appropriate.
?Act as final arbiter on matters of language and terminology.
?Serve on examination boards for the recruitment of translators.
?Act as Officer-in-Charge for the Chief, CMS, as required.

專業(yè)要求

An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Candidates for this position must have passed the combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-writers, Editors, Verbatim Reporters and Copy Preparers/Proofreaders/Production Editors in Spanish or any United Nations language competitive examination in Spanish held before 2017.

At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in translation/précis-writing/editing/self-revision/verbatim reporting/copypreparing/proofreading or production editing or in the provision of language or language-related services is required.
The aforementioned experience must have been in a multilingual setting.
Experience in the use of standard computer-assisted-translation (CAT) tools is required.
Significant language-related management experience in international, regional or national institutions is highly desirable.

For this position, fluency in Spanish, which must be the candidate’s main language, is required. The incumbent must also have knowledge of English and, preferably, of one other official United Nations language, as tested by the relevant United Nations competitive examination.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
