The position is located in the Treaty Section of the Office of Legal Affairs (OLA). The Editor reports to the Information Management Officer and the Chief of the Treaty Section.

工作內容

Under the overall supervision of the Chief, Treaty Section and the direct supervision of the Information Management Officer, the Editor will be responsible for the following duties:

? Copy-edits or edits electronic manuscripts of publications, ensuring accuracy of content, terminology, grammar, syntax, punctuation, spelling and conformity with established United Nations style.
? Performs research, as required, on editorial and terminological issues related to publication, using electronic glossaries, terminology databases and internal and external Internet resources.
? Coordinates the editorial practices of the proofreading/copy preparation team.
? Assures continuity of style in serially produced publications and conformity to United Nations publishing standards.
? Imports text into desktop publishing software and completes formatting of text, tabular matter, front matter and covers, using electronic templates and style sheets.
? Imports graphics and images and manipulates them using specialized software.Reads galley and conducts editorial management and review of the page proofs against original manuscripts to ensure that the printed version is a true transcription of the text supplied for publishing, and introduces corrections of substance, spelling, grammar, style and typography
? Completes cross references within text and footnotes, as well as pagination and correlation of table of contents with listed items in a publication.
? Checks sales number, roll figure, ISBN and ISSN numbers and bar code.
? Checks concordance of text with texts of other official languages to ensure substantive and typographical conformity.
? Reads amended proofs against previous proofs, incorporates additional editorial alterations in successive sets of proofs and gives final approval for publishing.
? Prepares final PDF files for electronic publishing, web posting and archiving.
? Packages files for archiving to local and network drives.
? Provides training to junior and new staff in United Nations styles and publishing standards, as well as in electronic copy preparation, print production and publications production processes.
? May serve as officer-in-charge during the absence of supervisor. .
? Performs other related duties as required.

專業(yè)要求

A first level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status in editorial, proofreading or related field is required. Candidates for this position must have passed the combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Translators/Précis-writers, Editors, Verbatim Reporters and Copy Preparers/Proofreaders/Production Editors in the relevant language or any relevant United Nations language competitive examinations in the relevant language held before 2017.

工作經(jīng)驗

A minimum of two years of experience in the United Nations or similar international organization publications production area as an editor, proofreader, translator/reviser or verbatim reporter is required.
Experience working with the United Nations Editorial Manual Online and United Nations Multilingual Terminology Database is desirable.
Experience with the multilingual editing, translation and/or revision of legal texts is desirable.

語言要求

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For this position, fluency in French, which must be the candidate’s main language, and knowledge of English, are required. Knowledge of another official UN language is desirable.

Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
